The Dunes at Oceano are a magical place for me. I began photographing them in the summer of 1987, on my first trip along California’s Central Coast. I returned as often as possible, usually on getaway weekends from my home in Los Angeles. I retired to the area in November of 2004, and can visit the Dunes on any given day to continue photographing, or simply go for a stroll and watch the sunset. I find the ever-changing textures, shadows and light always hold new surprises for my eye to delight in. The clear days of winter are the best time to photograph, including the days immediately following the passing of rain storms, which give the sand a sculpted and hard-etched appearance.
